Alocasia Reginula ‘Black Velvet’ – Dark Velvet Jewel Alocasia
Alocasia reginula ‘Black Velvet’ is a compact tropical foliage plant prized for its dramatic, velvety leaves and strong contrasting venation. The foliage develops a deep, almost black-green appearance with pale silver veins, creating a bold sculptural look despite the plant’s relatively small size. As a Jewel Alocasia, it is especially popular with collectors who want striking foliage without needing a large amount of space.
Why You’ll Love It ✔️
✔️ Appearance – Thick, velvety leaves develop deep dark tones with contrasting pale venation, giving the plant a rich, almost metallic look.
✔️ Growing Appeal – A compact Alocasia that works beautifully on shelves, benches and smaller indoor plant displays.
✔️ Point of Difference – ‘Black Velvet’ stands out for its unusually dark foliage, soft texture and compact habit compared with many larger Alocasia species.
Care Tips
🌞 Light: Bright indirect light is ideal. Protect from harsh direct afternoon sun, which can scorch the foliage.
💧 Water: Water when the upper portion of the potting mix begins to dry. Keep lightly moist during active growth while avoiding constantly saturated conditions.
💦 Humidity: Prefers moderate to high humidity. A humidifier can be beneficial in dry indoor environments.
🌡 Temperature: Ideally 18–30°C. Protect from cold temperatures, sudden temperature changes and cool drafts.
🌱 Soil: Use a loose, chunky and well-draining mix containing coco coir, coco chip & perlite to provide good moisture balance and root aeration.
🌿 Fertiliser: Controlled-release fertiliser is already added to the potting mix. A balanced liquid fertiliser can be applied occasionally during active growth.
🚫 Toxicity: Alocasias contain insoluble calcium oxalate crystals and are considered toxic if chewed or ingested by pets or children. Keep out of reach.

A beautiful compact Alocasia for anyone who loves dark foliage, strong texture and dramatic contrast.
We get a lot of questions about how our shipping works, so here’s a simple breakdown 🌿📦
Our shipping rates are charged per box, with each box able to fit up to 8 × 75mm potted plants.
As a general guide:
• 75mm pots make the best use of space, with up to 8 plants fitting in one box
• 100mm pots take up more space, so a box will usually fit around 3 plants depending on their size and shape
If your order requires more than one box, the website will automatically add the additional shipping charge.
For example:
• Up to 8 × 75mm plants = 1 box
• Larger 100mm plants use more box space and may reduce the total number of plants that fit in each box
