Biophytum sensitivum, commonly known as the Little Tree plant, is a fascinating tropical species with delicate, responsive foliage and an unusual life cycle. Unlike most long-lived houseplants, this species is naturally short-lived and typically behaves as an annual, meaning it completes its full life cycle in a relatively short period rather than persisting for many years.
Why You’ll Love It ✔️
✔️ Interactive foliage that folds down at night and in response to touch
✔️ Produces small star-shaped flowers before setting seed
✔️ Ideal for terrariums and high-humidity displays
Care Tips
🌞 Light: Bright indirect light or gentle morning sun is ideal; avoid harsh direct sunlight which can stress the foliage.
💧 Water: Keep the soil consistently moist during growth; do not allow the mix to dry out completely.
💦 Humidity: Thrives in very high humidity; a humidifier is strongly recommended for long-term success.
🌡 Temperature: Prefers warm conditions above 18°C and is sensitive to cold.
🌱 Soil: Use a moisture-retentive but free-draining mix of coco coir, coco chip & perlite.
🪴 Support: Not required, as this plant maintains a compact, upright habit.
🌿 Fertiliser: Controlled-release fertiliser is added to the potting mix; supplement with a gentle liquid fertiliser during active growth.
🚫 Toxicity: Toxic if ingested; keep out of reach of pets and children.
Lifecycle & Short Lifespan
Biophytum sensitivum is not a long-term houseplant. It is naturally short-lived and often completes its life cycle within 6–18 months. After flowering and producing seed, plants commonly begin to decline and die, even under ideal conditions. This is a normal and expected part of the plant’s biology rather than a sign of poor care. Collecting and growing from seed is the only way to maintain the plant long-term.
A unique and interactive plant best enjoyed as a temporary feature rather than a permanent houseplant.

We get a lot of questions about how our shipping works, so here’s a simple breakdown 🌿📦
Our shipping rates are charged in bundles based on box space and weight limits.
As a general guide:
• 75mm plants count as 1 plant space
• 100mm plants take up the space of approximately 2 × 75mm plants
This means a box that fits 8 × 75mm plants will usually fit around 4 × 100mm plants depending on the plant size and shape.
Every product has an estimated shipping weight listed just below the product description. Please use this as a guide when building your order.
If your order exceeds one shipping bundle, the website will automatically add another shipping amount for the additional bundle.
For example:
• Up to 8 × 75mm plants = 1 shipping bundle
• Larger 100mm plants use more box space and may reduce the total quantity that fits per bundle
