Columnea microcalyx is a captivating trailing plant known for its vibrant tubular flowers that resemble leaping goldfish. Native to the tropical rainforests of Central and South America, it’s a standout choice for hanging baskets, with cascading stems and glossy green leaves that showcase its fiery blooms beautifully.

Why You’ll Love It ✔️
✔️ Bright red-orange “goldfish” flowers pop against lush green foliage
✔️ Cascading growth makes it perfect for hanging baskets or shelf displays
✔️ Blooms multiple times a year in the right conditions

Care Tips
🌞 Light: Bright indirect light; too much direct sun may scorch the leaves
💧 Water: Keep soil lightly moist during growth; allow top layer to dry slightly between waterings
💦 Humidity: Thrives in high humidity; a humidifier is ideal for best flowering
🌡 Temperature: Prefers 18–26°C; keep away from cold drafts and frost
🌱 Soil: Free-draining mix of coco coir, coco chip & perlite is ideal
🪴 Support: Not required – naturally trailing habit
🌿 Fertiliser: Controlled-release fertiliser is in the potting mix; supplement with a bloom-boosting liquid fertiliser during flowering
🚫 Toxicity: We believe it’s safe, but recommend keeping out of reach of pets and children as a precaution

An eye-catching flowering trailer that brings colour, charm, and personality to any plant collection.

Synonyms: Sometimes referred to as Columnea gloriosa, Goldfish Plant

75mm pot size

Important Disclaimer:
Columnea species are extremely sensitive to temperatures below 18°C and may drop all of their leaves, sometimes even during transit. This is a normal response and not a sign of poor plant health. Please only order if you are comfortable accepting this risk, as we cannot offer refunds or replacements for leaf loss due to cold sensitivity.

If you are located in WA, NT, or TAS, please be aware that mandatory quarantine treatments may also damage the foliage.

We get a lot of questions about how our shipping works, so here’s a simple breakdown 🌿📦

Our shipping rates are charged per box, with each box able to fit up to 8 × 75mm potted plants.

As a general guide:
• 75mm pots make the best use of space, with up to 8 plants fitting in one box
• 100mm pots take up more space, so a box will usually fit around 3 plants depending on their size and shape

If your order requires more than one box, the website will automatically add the additional shipping charge.

For example:
• Up to 8 × 75mm plants = 1 box
• Larger 100mm plants use more box space and may reduce the total number of plants that fit in each box

Absolutely covered in flowers

I wasn’t expecting it to flower this quickly, but within a few weeks it was covered in bright red blooms. The trailing growth looks amazing in a hanging pot and it’s become one of the first plants people notice when they visit. It arrived healthy, well packed and settled in without any issues. If you can give it bright indirect light and a bit of humidity, it really puts on a show. Definitely one of my favourite flowering houseplants

Stressed

Arrived really stressed out like my curly lipstick plant and I’m not sure if it was because of the extended transit time or if the medium had dried out too much but it also shed most of it’s leaves and some of the stems died back. I’m hoping it can recover, it’s been a Wishlist plant for a long time and very hard to find in WA.
