Nepenthes ‘St Gaya’ – Speckled Tropical Pitcher Plant

Nepenthes ‘St Gaya’ is a popular hybrid tropical pitcher plant known for its colourful, well-formed pitchers and relatively adaptable growth. It is a cultivated cross of Nepenthes khasiana × (N. ventricosa × N. maxima), combining traits from several hardy and attractive species. The pitchers typically develop bold speckling and a broad, flared peristome, making this an excellent choice for both newer growers and established carnivorous plant collections.

Why You’ll Love It ✔️

✔️ Appearance – Produces decorative upright pitchers with attractive speckling and a broad, defined peristome.

✔️ Growing Appeal – A relatively adaptable hybrid that performs well across a range of intermediate to warm growing conditions and is commonly recommended as an easier Nepenthes to grow.

✔️ Point of Difference – Its complex hybrid parentage gives ‘St Gaya’ a distinctive combination of pitcher shape, markings and vigour not found in a single species.

Care Tips

🌞 Light: Bright indirect light is ideal. Gentle filtered or morning sun can help support strong growth and pitcher development, but protect from harsh direct afternoon sun.

💧 Water: Keep consistently moist using rainwater, distilled water or another very low-mineral water source. Never allow the growing medium to dry completely, but avoid leaving the roots permanently submerged.

💦 Humidity: Prefers moderate to high humidity with good airflow. Higher humidity generally supports more reliable pitcher formation.

🌡 Temperature: Ideally around 20–30°C during the day with slightly cooler nights. ‘St Gaya’ is relatively adaptable compared with many more specialised Nepenthes hybrids.

🌱 Soil: Use a nutrient-poor, open and highly aerated carnivorous plant mix such as long-fibre sphagnum combined with coarse perlite or similar inert material. Avoid standard potting mix and rich organic soil.

🪴 Support: As the plant matures and begins to vine, it can be given a trellis or other support, or allowed to trail from an elevated position.

🌿 Fertiliser: Do not use controlled-release fertiliser in the potting mix for Nepenthes. These plants obtain much of their nutrition through their pitchers and are sensitive to excessive nutrients around the roots.

🚫 Toxicity: Nepenthes are not generally regarded as a significant poisoning risk, but reliable pet-specific toxicity information is limited. Keep out of reach of pets and children who may chew the plant or damage the pitchers.

Also known as: Nepenthes ‘Gaya’, St Gaya Pitcher Plant, Nepenthes × Gaya

A fantastic all-round Nepenthes hybrid with colourful pitchers, strong growth and plenty of collector appeal.

Pot Size: 100mm
Shipping Availability: Nationwide except WA
  • This plant is not permitted in WA

We get a lot of questions about how our shipping works, so here’s a simple breakdown 🌿📦

Our shipping rates are charged per box, with each box able to fit up to 8 × 75mm potted plants.

As a general guide:
• 75mm pots make the best use of space, with up to 8 plants fitting in one box
• 100mm pots take up more space, so a box will usually fit around 3 plants depending on their size and shape

If your order requires more than one box, the website will automatically add the additional shipping charge.

For example:
• Up to 8 × 75mm plants = 1 box
• Larger 100mm plants use more box space and may reduce the total number of plants that fit in each box
