Begonia Rex ‘Escargot’ – Spiral Leaf Rex Begonia
Begonia Rex ‘Escargot’ is a striking tropical foliage plant prized for its dramatic spiral leaf pattern and bold, textured appearance. Each leaf curls inward in a distinctive snail-shell shape, creating the “escargot” effect that gives this cultivar its name. Its compact growth and highly decorative foliage make it a standout choice for shelves, tabletops and shaded indoor displays.
Why You’ll Love It ✔️
✔️ Appearance – Large textured leaves develop a distinctive spiral pattern, giving the foliage a sculptural, eye-catching look.
✔️ Growing Appeal – A compact Rex Begonia that suits bright indoor positions and protected, humid environments.
✔️ Point of Difference – The signature spiral leaf pattern makes ‘Escargot’ instantly recognisable and very different from more conventional Begonia forms.
Care Tips
🌞 Light: Bright indirect light is ideal. Protect from harsh direct afternoon sun, which can scorch the foliage.
💧 Water: Water when the upper portion of the potting mix begins to dry. Keep lightly moist during active growth while avoiding constantly saturated conditions.
💦 Humidity: Prefers moderate to high humidity with good airflow. A humidifier can be beneficial in dry indoor environments.
🌡 Temperature: Ideally 18–28°C. Protect from cold temperatures and cool drafts.
🌱 Soil: Use a loose, well-draining mix containing coco coir, coco chip & perlite to provide good moisture balance and root aeration.
🌿 Fertiliser: Controlled-release fertiliser is already added to the potting mix. A diluted balanced liquid fertiliser can be applied occasionally during active growth.
🚫 Toxicity: Begonias contain calcium oxalates and are considered toxic if chewed or ingested by pets. Keep out of reach of pets and children.
Also known as: Escargot Begonia, Rex Begonia ‘Escargot’, Spiral Begonia

We get a lot of questions about how our shipping works, so here’s a simple breakdown 🌿📦
Our shipping rates are charged per box, with each box able to fit up to 8 × 75mm potted plants.
As a general guide:
• 75mm pots make the best use of space, with up to 8 plants fitting in one box
• 100mm pots take up more space, so a box will usually fit around 3 plants depending on their size and shape
If your order requires more than one box, the website will automatically add the additional shipping charge.
For example:
• Up to 8 × 75mm plants = 1 box
• Larger 100mm plants use more box space and may reduce the total number of plants that fit in each box
