Epipremnum Aureum ‘Shangri La’ – Curled Leaf Pothos
Epipremnum aureum ‘Shangri La’ is a distinctive tropical climbing and trailing aroid grown for its unusual twisted, curled foliage and compact growth habit. Unlike the flat leaves of standard pothos, ‘Shangri La’ develops crinkled, folded leaves that give the plant a dense, sculptural appearance. Its quirky form and easy-going nature make it a standout choice for shelves, hanging pots and climbing displays.
Sometimes leaves arent curly and take time, usually in the warmer months they are more curly. Variation is shows in the product images below, dpeending what time of year you buy them they might not be curled yet.
Why You’ll Love It ✔️
✔️ Appearance – Green leaves develop distinctive curls, folds and twists, creating a textured look unlike traditional pothos varieties.
✔️ Growing Appeal – A compact, versatile indoor plant that can be allowed to trail or trained onto a support as it matures.
✔️ Point of Difference – ‘Shangri La’ is instantly recognisable for its heavily distorted foliage, giving it a much more unusual appearance than standard Epipremnum aureum forms.
Care Tips
🌞 Light: Bright indirect light is ideal. It can tolerate somewhat lower light, although brighter indirect light generally supports denser, healthier growth.
💧 Water: Water when the upper portion of the potting mix begins to dry. Avoid keeping the roots constantly wet, as good drainage is important.
💦 Humidity: Appreciates moderate to high humidity but generally adapts well to normal indoor conditions. A humidifier can be beneficial in particularly dry environments.
🌡 Temperature: Ideally 18–30°C. Protect from cold temperatures and cool drafts.
🌱 Soil: Use a loose, chunky and well-draining mix containing coco coir, coco chip & perlite to provide good moisture balance and root aeration.
🪴 Support: Can be grown trailing from a shelf or hanging pot, or provided with a pole or trellis to encourage climbing growth.
🌿 Fertiliser: Controlled-release fertiliser is already added to the potting mix. A balanced liquid fertiliser can be applied occasionally during active growth.
🚫 Toxicity: Contains insoluble calcium oxalate crystals and is considered toxic if chewed or ingested by pets or children. Keep out of reach.
Also known as: Shangri La Pothos, Sleeping Pothos, Curly Pothos
A fun and unusual pothos for anyone who loves compact growth, sculptural foliage and plants with a little personality.
We get a lot of questions about how our shipping works, so here’s a simple breakdown 🌿📦
Our shipping rates are charged per box, with each box able to fit up to 8 × 75mm potted plants.
As a general guide:
• 75mm pots make the best use of space, with up to 8 plants fitting in one box
• 100mm pots take up more space, so a box will usually fit around 3 plants depending on their size and shape
If your order requires more than one box, the website will automatically add the additional shipping charge.
For example:
• Up to 8 × 75mm plants = 1 box
• Larger 100mm plants use more box space and may reduce the total number of plants that fit in each box
