Phlegmariurus squarrosus ‘Borneo Large’, also widely known as Huperzia squarrosa, is a spectacular tropical tassel fern with long, cascading stems densely covered in narrow, outward-pointing green leaves. This Borneo-sourced large form makes an impressive hanging specimen as it matures, developing dramatic pendulous growth that can spill well below its pot. The species naturally occurs as an epiphyte or lithophyte in wet tropical forests across Asia and the Pacific, including Borneo and Queensland.

💧 Water: Keep consistently moist without leaving the root system waterlogged. Tassel ferns dislike being allowed to dry out completely, particularly during warm weather and active growth.

💦 Humidity: Prefers high humidity and good airflow, reflecting its wet tropical forest habitat. A humidifier can be beneficial in dry indoor environments.

🌡 Temperature: Ideally 18–30°C. Protect from cold temperatures, drying winds and sudden temperature changes.

🌱 Soil: Use a very loose, airy and moisture-retentive mix containing coco coir, coco chip & perlite. Excellent drainage and airflow around the roots are important for this naturally epiphytic or rock-growing species.
