Pellionia Repens var. Pulchra – Watermelon Trailing Foliage Plant
Pellionia repens var. pulchra is a lush tropical trailing plant grown for its beautifully patterned foliage, with green leaves marked by contrasting darker edges and silvery central tones. Its naturally creeping, cascading habit makes it an excellent choice for hanging pots, shelves and terrariums, where the delicate stems can spill attractively over the edges. The name Pellionia repens is still widely used in horticulture, although current botanical treatments place it under Procris repens.
Why You’ll Love It ✔️
✔️ Appearance – Decorative foliage combines green, silver and darker contrasting tones for a soft watermelon-like pattern.
✔️ Growing Appeal – A quick-growing trailing plant that works beautifully in hanging pots, terrariums and shelves where its stems can cascade naturally.
✔️ Point of Difference – Its patterned foliage and low, creeping habit give it a very different look from more upright tropical indoor plants.
Care Tips
🌞 Light: Bright indirect light is ideal. It can tolerate somewhat lower light, although the foliage pattern may become less pronounced.
💧 Water: Water when the upper 2–3 cm of potting mix begins to dry. Avoid allowing the plant to dry out completely for extended periods.
💦 Humidity: Prefers moderate to high humidity. A humidifier can be beneficial in dry indoor environments.
🌡 Temperature: Ideally 18–28°C. Protect from cold drafts and frost.
🌱 Soil: Use a loose, well-draining mix containing coco coir, coco chip & perlite to retain moisture while still allowing good airflow around the roots.
🌿 Fertiliser: Controlled-release fertiliser is already added to the potting mix. A balanced liquid fertiliser can be applied occasionally during active growth.
🚫 Toxicity: Reliable authoritative pet-toxicity information is limited, so we recommend keeping it out of reach of pets and children rather than assuming it is completely non-toxic.
Also known as: Watermelon Pellionia, Pellionia pulchra, Elatostema repens var. pulchrum, Procris repens
A beautiful trailing foliage plant for adding soft colour, texture and movement to shelves, hanging pots and terrarium displays.
We get a lot of questions about how our shipping works, so here’s a simple breakdown 🌿📦
Our shipping rates are charged per box, with each box able to fit up to 8 × 75mm potted plants.
As a general guide:
• 75mm pots make the best use of space, with up to 8 plants fitting in one box
• 100mm pots take up more space, so a box will usually fit around 3 plants depending on their size and shape
If your order requires more than one box, the website will automatically add the additional shipping charge.
For example:
• Up to 8 × 75mm plants = 1 box
• Larger 100mm plants use more box space and may reduce the total number of plants that fit in each box
