Rhaphidophora Hayi – Shingling Climbing Aroid

Rhaphidophora hayi is a shingling aroid whose smooth green leaves press closely against a vertical surface as the stem climbs. This tile-like growth habit makes it especially effective on boards, poles and compact vertical displays where the foliage can overlap tightly as it develops.

Why You’ll Love It ✔️
✔️ Appearance: Smooth oval green leaves overlap closely to create a living tiled effect.
✔️ Growing Appeal: Strong vertical growth makes excellent use of small spaces when provided with a suitable surface.
✔️ Point of Difference: The distinctive shingling habit keeps foliage pressed close to its support instead of extending on long petioles.

Care Tips
🌞 Light: Bright indirect light is ideal; avoid harsh direct sun.
💧 Water: Keep the mix lightly moist, allowing the upper 2–3 cm to begin drying between waterings; avoid waterlogging.
💦 Humidity: Prefers moderate to high humidity; a humidifier can help maintain compact growth in dry conditions.
🌡 Temperature: Aim for 18–28°C and protect from prolonged temperatures below about 15°C.
🌱 Soil: Use a chunky, free-draining mix of coco coir, coco chip and perlite.
🪴 Support: A board, pole or totem is essential for the characteristic shingling growth habit.
🌿 Fertiliser: Controlled-release fertiliser is already included in the potting mix; supplement lightly with a balanced liquid fertiliser during active growth.
🚫 Toxicity: Reliable species-specific pet-toxicity information is limited; avoid ingestion and keep out of reach of pets and children.

Also Known As / Synonyms
Shingle Plant.

Shipping & Totem Note
Plants are shipped on a polystyrene totem because bark or wooden totems cannot be sent to all states. We recommend keeping the plant on the totem to prevent damage. If removal is necessary, carefully break the polystyrene apart rather than pulling the plant away, as the stems and roots are delicate and can break.

A compact vertical climber with one of the most distinctive growth habits in the aroid group.

Pot Size: 75mm
Shipping Availability: Nationwide

We get a lot of questions about how our shipping works, so here’s a simple breakdown 🌿📦

Our shipping rates are charged per box, with each box able to fit up to 8 × 75mm potted plants.

As a general guide:
• 75mm pots make the best use of space, with up to 8 plants fitting in one box
• 100mm pots take up more space, so a box will usually fit around 3 plants depending on their size and shape

If your order requires more than one box, the website will automatically add the additional shipping charge.

For example:
• Up to 8 × 75mm plants = 1 box
• Larger 100mm plants use more box space and may reduce the total number of plants that fit in each box

Beautiful

I have repotted it and it takes little attention. I have it spilling out of a pot in dappled morning light and it grows very fast.
