Kimnachia Ramulosa (syn. Pseudorhipsalis Ramulosa) – Red Mistletoe Cactus, Trailing Jungle Cactus

Kimnachia ramulosa, known as the Red Mistletoe Cactus or Red Rhipsalis, is a spineless, epiphytic jungle cactus from the forests of southern Mexico, Central America, northern South America and the Caribbean. It’s long been sold as Pseudorhipsalis ramulosa, but botanists moved it to its own genus, Kimnachia, in 2017. Its long, branching stems are flattened like leaves, with gently scalloped edges, and they flush red to deep violet-burgundy in bright light. In summer it produces small pinkish to greenish-cream flowers, followed by pearly white berries. Its stems can trail up to about 1 m, which makes it a beautiful, easy-going hanging plant for indoors and sheltered patios.

Why You’ll Love It ✔️

✔️ Red-flushed trailing stems – Flattened, leaf-like stems blush from green to rich burgundy-red in good light, which gives it a colourful, cascading look.

✔️ Easy hanging plant – It’s spineless, fast-branching and forgiving, so it suits hanging baskets and high shelves where the stems can tumble freely.

✔️ A one-of-a-kind cactus – It’s the only species in its genus, and unlike desert cacti it grows in tree canopies, so it’s happy with indirect light and regular watering. Its flowers and pearly berries add extra interest.

Care Tips

🌞 Light: Bright indirect light keeps growth compact and brings out the red colouring. Gentle morning sun deepens the red tones, but avoid harsh afternoon sun, which can scorch the stems.

💧 Water: Water when the top few centimetres of mix have dried. Unlike desert cacti, it doesn’t like drying out completely, but overwatering can cause stem rot, so let excess water drain away freely.

💦 Humidity: It is happy in average household humidity and grows best at around 50% or higher. A humidifier can help in very dry or air-conditioned rooms.

🌡 Temperature: 15–30°C is ideal. Keep it above 10°C and protect it from frost.

🌱 Soil: Use a very airy, fast-draining mix with plenty of coco chip, plus coco coir & perlite, to suit its epiphytic roots.

🪴 Support: No support needed. Grow it in a hanging basket or on a raised shelf so the stems can trail.

🌿 Fertiliser: Controlled-release fertiliser is already added to the potting mix. During spring and summer, add a balanced liquid fertiliser at half strength every few weeks.

🚫 Toxicity: Toxicity information for this species is limited. Related jungle cacti such as Rhipsalis are generally considered non-toxic to pets, but we recommend keeping it out of reach of pets and children as a precaution.

Pot Size: 75mm
Shipping Availability: Nationwide

We get a lot of questions about how our shipping works, so here’s a simple breakdown 🌿📦

Our shipping rates are charged per box, with each box able to fit up to 8 × 75mm potted plants.

As a general guide:
• 75mm pots make the best use of space, with up to 8 plants fitting in one box
• 100mm pots take up more space, so a box will usually fit around 3 plants depending on their size and shape

If your order requires more than one box, the website will automatically add the additional shipping charge.

For example:
• Up to 8 × 75mm plants = 1 box
• Larger 100mm plants use more box space and may reduce the total number of plants that fit in each box
