Vanilla planifolia ‘Variegata’ – Variegated Vanilla Orchid
Vanilla planifolia ‘Variegata’ is a climbing orchid grown for its fleshy green leaves patterned with creamy variegation. Its long, flexible stems develop aerial roots as they climb, giving it a distinctive tropical look while connecting it to the species cultivated commercially for vanilla.
Why You’ll Love It
✔️ Appearance: Fleshy green foliage marked with irregular cream variegation along a trailing or climbing vine.
✔️ Growing Appeal: A warm-growing orchid that can be trained vertically on a suitable support as its stems lengthen.
✔️ Point of Difference: A variegated form of Vanilla planifolia, the orchid species cultivated for vanilla pods.
Care Tips
Light: Bright, indirect light; protect from harsh direct sun.
Water: Water when the upper layer of the mix begins to dry, keeping the root zone lightly moist without waterlogging.
Humidity: Prefers moderate to high humidity with good airflow.
Temperature: Best in warm conditions around 20–30°C; protect from cold.
Soil: Use a chunky, free-draining orchid or tropical plant mix that holds some moisture while allowing airflow around the roots.
Support: Provide a pole, trellis or other sturdy support for the aerial roots and climbing stems.
Fertiliser: Controlled-release fertiliser provides ongoing nutrition; follow label directions when reapplying.
Toxicity: Specific pet-safety information for this variegated form is not sufficiently established, so avoid ingestion and keep it away from pets and children who may chew plants.

We get a lot of questions about how our shipping works, so here’s a simple breakdown 🌿📦
Our shipping rates are charged per box, with each box able to fit up to 8 × 75mm potted plants.
As a general guide:
• 75mm pots make the best use of space, with up to 8 plants fitting in one box
• 100mm pots take up more space, so a box will usually fit around 3 plants depending on their size and shape
If your order requires more than one box, the website will automatically add the additional shipping charge.
For example:
• Up to 8 × 75mm plants = 1 box
• Larger 100mm plants use more box space and may reduce the total number of plants that fit in each box
