Ledebouria Petiolata ‘Leopard’ – Spotted Bulbous Foliage Plant
Ledebouria petiolata ‘Leopard’ is a distinctive bulbous foliage plant prized for its broad green leaves patterned with dark leopard-like spotting. Its low-growing rosette habit and unusual markings give it a bold, graphic appearance, while the exposed bulbs and seasonal flowers add extra interest for collectors of unusual foliage and geophytic plants.
Why You’ll Love It ✔️
✔️ Appearance – Broad green leaves are decorated with irregular dark spots, creating the distinctive leopard-patterned look that gives this form its name.
✔️ Growing Appeal – A compact bulb-forming plant that stays relatively low and works well in pots, shelves and bright indoor or sheltered positions.
✔️ Point of Difference – Its combination of spotted foliage, visible bulbs and unusual botanical character makes it very different from conventional tropical houseplants.
Care Tips
🌞 Light: Bright indirect light is ideal. Gentle morning sun can be beneficial, but protect from harsh direct afternoon sun.
💧 Water: Water when the upper portion of the potting mix begins to dry. Avoid keeping the bulbs and roots constantly wet, as good drainage is important.
💦 Humidity: Generally comfortable in moderate household humidity and does not require especially high humidity.
🌡 Temperature: Ideally 18–28°C. Protect from frost and prolonged cold conditions.
🌱 Soil: Use a loose, well-draining mix containing coco coir, coco chip & perlite, with excellent drainage around the bulb and root system.
🌿 Fertiliser: Controlled-release fertiliser is already added to the potting mix. A balanced liquid fertiliser can be applied occasionally during active growth.
🚫 Toxicity: Reliable authoritative pet-toxicity information for Ledebouria petiolata is limited, so we recommend keeping it out of reach of pets and children rather than assuming it is non-toxic.
Also known as: Leopard Lily, Spotted Ledebouria, Drimiopsis maculata
A striking little bulbous plant for collectors who love spotted foliage and something a bit different from the usual indoor plant lineup.
We get a lot of questions about how our shipping works, so here’s a simple breakdown 🌿📦
Our shipping rates are charged per box, with each box able to fit up to 8 × 75mm potted plants.
As a general guide:
• 75mm pots make the best use of space, with up to 8 plants fitting in one box
• 100mm pots take up more space, so a box will usually fit around 3 plants depending on their size and shape
If your order requires more than one box, the website will automatically add the additional shipping charge.
For example:
• Up to 8 × 75mm plants = 1 box
• Larger 100mm plants use more box space and may reduce the total number of plants that fit in each box
