Nepenthes Veitchii – Striped Peristome Tropical Pitcher Plant

Nepenthes veitchii is a spectacular tropical carnivorous plant prized for its large pitchers, broad flared peristome and distinctive striped markings. Native to Borneo, this species is especially recognisable for its robust pitchers and heavily developed pitcher rim, which can become increasingly dramatic as the plant matures. Its unusual form and highly variable pitcher colour make it a standout species for Nepenthes collectors.

Possibly a hybrid, we're not sure if the ID is completely correct. Please only purchase if you're ok with this.

Why You’ll Love It ✔️

✔️ Appearance – Produces impressive pitchers with a broad, flared peristome that can develop striking stripes and contrasting markings.

✔️ Growing Appeal – A rewarding tropical pitcher plant that develops increasingly impressive traps as it matures under warm, humid conditions.

✔️ Point of Difference – Nepenthes veitchii is famous among collectors for its exceptionally broad peristome and distinctive pitcher form, with considerable natural variation between individual plants.

Care Tips

🌞 Light: Bright indirect light is ideal. Gentle filtered or morning sun can encourage strong growth and pitcher development, but protect from harsh direct afternoon sun.

💧 Water: Keep consistently moist using rainwater, distilled water or another very low-mineral water source. Never allow the growing medium to dry completely, but avoid leaving the roots permanently submerged.

💦 Humidity: Prefers moderate to high humidity with good airflow. Higher humidity generally supports reliable pitcher development. A humidifier can be beneficial in dry indoor environments.

🌡 Temperature: Prefers warm tropical conditions, ideally around 20–30°C during the day with slightly cooler nights. Avoid prolonged cold conditions.

🌱 Soil: Use a nutrient-poor, open and highly aerated carnivorous plant mix such as long-fibre sphagnum combined with coarse perlite or similar inert material. Avoid standard potting mix and rich organic soil.

🌿 Fertiliser: Do not use controlled-release fertiliser in the potting mix for Nepenthes. These plants obtain much of their nutrition through their pitchers and are sensitive to excessive nutrients around the roots.

🚫 Toxicity: Nepenthes veitchii is not generally regarded as a significant poisoning risk, but reliable pet-specific toxicity information is limited. Keep out of reach of pets and children who may chew the plant or damage the pitchers.

Also known as: Veitch’s Pitcher Plant, Veitch’s Nepenthes

A spectacular collector species for anyone who loves dramatic pitchers, bold peristomes and the extraordinary diversity of tropical carnivorous plants.

Pot Size: 75mm

Shipping Availability: Nationwide

We get a lot of questions about how our shipping works, so here’s a simple breakdown 🌿📦

Our shipping rates are charged per box, with each box able to fit up to 8 × 75mm potted plants.

As a general guide:
• 75mm pots make the best use of space, with up to 8 plants fitting in one box
• 100mm pots take up more space, so a box will usually fit around 3 plants depending on their size and shape

If your order requires more than one box, the website will automatically add the additional shipping charge.

For example:
• Up to 8 × 75mm plants = 1 box
• Larger 100mm plants use more box space and may reduce the total number of plants that fit in each box
